Second Harvest partners with incorporated, non-profit agencies that serve at least 70% low-income people. Our Partners serve a culturally-diverse range of populations and include soup kitchens, pantries, rehabilitation centers, shelters for victims of domestic violence, schools, senior centers, and more.
Unlike most other food banks around the country, we do not charge our agencies a fee to receive food from us. While this increases the amount of money that we need to raise annually, we feel it is another way we can support our partner agencies, who are often small non-profits with limited budgets and fundraising capabilities. By providing food to our Partner Agencies, they can focus their time and resources on their areas of expertise, strengthening the community safety net.

Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen began 31 years ago when Peggy Coleman, Barry Del Buono and Father Largente saw an unmet need in San Jose. They figured vulnerable families, senior citizens and homeless people could use a hot nutritious meal at no cost so they opened up their kitchen doors. They now have three locations and collaborate with many other local non-profits, like Second Harvest.
