October 2011: Brocade and the 49ers invite you to kick off the Holiday Drive

You did it! We thank everyone who made Hunger Action Month successful by participating in the Oracle Online Action Challenge, KGO Fights Hunger Day and all our HAM activities. You turned almost 8,000 online actions — clicks, Facebook likes, tweets, and more — into a $25,000 donation from Oracle. You tuned in to KGO Fights Hunger Day for 14 hours on September 16th and raised almost $200,000 for Bay Area Food Banks. Your dedication has pumped us up to dive into the upcoming holiday season. We need your continued partnership to feed 1 in 10 people in our community during the holidays and year-round.

Don't Miss the 49ers and Brocade Kick-Off Event
Second Harvest has teamed up with Brocade CEO Mike Klayko and San Francisco 49ers President and CEO Jed York to launch our largest effort of the year: the Holiday Food and Fund Drive. You're invited to join the Food Bank on Wednesday, October 19th at 10:00am in our San Carlos warehouse for our annual kick-off event. In addition to hearing from our Brocade and 49ers co-chairs, former 49ers offensive guard and three-time Super Bowl Champion Guy McIntyre will be on hand to launch the campaign offensive against hunger. Register online to save your spot for the free event!

Can't wait? Meet Brocade's Mike Klayko in his Q&A session with the San Jose Mercury News and be inspired to run your own Food & Fund Drive at your company, school, or organization.

Ready, Set, Trot!
Start Thanksgiving Day off on the right foot. Before the big games, the big meal, the parades, and the pies, why not get in a little exercise and a lot of fun while benefiting local charities? It's an event the whole family will enjoy and it's a great way to kick off Thanksgiving Day. The Applied Materials "Silicon Valley Turkey Trot" benefits three local charities (Second Harvest Food Bank, the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County Bank, and Santa Clara County Children's Health Initiative). Get more information and register online today to reserve your space and awesome race shirt!

Would you rather volunteer than trot? We need 1,000 helpers to make the race happen. Read all about the volunteer opportunities at the Turkey Trot!
